On Friday, January 4, the Harwood Union alpine teams traveled to the Northeast Kingdom to compete at Burke Mountain in a two-run giant slalom. Both Harwood teams placed fourth overall in a field of six teams.
Junior Aaron Chesler led the Harwood boys with a solid 11th place finish. Eric Bidlack, 14th, Tanner Skilton, 17th, and Chad Koenig, 19th, gave the team a respectable result in their first giant slalom competition of the season. Scott Graham, 29th, Travis Hannon, 40th, and Derek Lowe, 44th, all put in best efforts in the meet.
Senior Anna Skilton paced the Harwood girls with a fine 8th place result. Teammates Caroline Dillon 11th, Lee Gubernick, 21st, and Ariel Goodman, 25th, scored for the team and also gave the Harwood girls a respectable finish. Jessica Normadeau, 26th, and Caty Shea, 28th, had personal best finishes in the meet. Lucy Gubernick and Abby Brown each had one solid run but failed to finish their second runs.
The team competes this Friday, January 11, at Mad River Glen in a slalom competition. Start time is noon on the practice slope.
