Alpine snowboard racer Rick Floyd, of Warren, recently completed his 2006-2007 USASA regional racing schedule, and then raced in the USASA National Championships at Northstar-at-Tahoe, April 2 through 6.

Floyd races in the "Men's Legends" division (age 40 to 49) of the USASA. In 16 regional races this year he garnered 15 gold medals and one silver in the Legends division. He also won three gold, four silver and one bronze in the overall results, competing against riders of all ages.

In the final 2006-2007 USASA Legends division National points rankings, he was first in slalom and second in GS out of 39 competitors.

Floyd was also at Bromley, VT March 10 and 11 for a USSA NorAm FIS points race, competing against U.S. Snowboard Team members and racers from eight countries in Parallel Slalom and Parallel Giant Slalom. He was the oldest competitor by seven years and twice the age of the majority of racers. He finished 36th PSL and 36th in PGS, out of 47 competitors.

Floyd's USASA season concluded with the USASA National Championships at Northstar in Lake Tahoe April 2 through April 6. He again raced in the Legends division and won a silver medal in Giant Slalom, and the gold in Slalom, against 17 competitors, and also took the Legends division Alpine Overall Gold, edging out the second-place overall finisher, Mario Mangiaracina, by a four-run combined time of eleven-hundredths of a second. In the Slalom on April 6, Rick also had the fastest single run on the course that day and finished first among all 114 competitors in that competition group, ranging in age from 19 years old and up. He was 6th overall in the GS on Monday.
