Kaiya Korb, who will be principal of the Waitsfield Elementary School starting in July, will be honored by the Vermont Principal's Association for her outstanding work as an education leader in Vermont.
The award ceremony will take place on the first evening of the Vermont Principals' Association Leadership Academy. The event will be held on August 4, 2009, at the Killington Grand Hotel in Killington, Vermont.
Korb is currently principal at Calais Elementary School. She has been recognized with the Henry Giauque Memorial Award and has been named Vermont's Elementary School Principal of the Year. Henry Giauque was one of the elementary principals who were instrumental in having the elementary principals become part of the Vermont Principals' Association. At Calais, Korb has been instrumental in pushing forward the learning agenda for a small school while bringing along a strong cadre of parental supporters. According to the Vermont Principal's Association, she works closely with her staff and is described as dedicated, hard working, an advocate for students and committed to the education of all students.
She lives in Fayston with her husband Chris Mayone and their two children Jasper and Stella.
