Wayne K. Johnson

Wayne K. Johnson of Fayston, VT, died on Tuesday, October 30, 2012, after a courageous battle with ALS. Wayne was born December 18, 1947, in Goffstown, NH. He graduated from Hollis High School in 1966. He attended Hesser College for two years before entering the Army where he served his country in Vietnam from December 1968 to December 1969. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1970 receiving a Commendation Medal with V-Device, Oak Leaf Cluster Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

Wayne spent most of his career as a truck driver and lived in Fayston, VT, since 1986. When not driving a truck, Wayne could be found down by the river fishing, in the woods hunting, riding his motorcycle, playing a game of pool or sitting in his recliner next to his love, Lynda, watching any New England sports team. Wayne is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Lynda; four stepdaughters, Ava Whitcomb and husband Alan of Marshfield, VT, Kara Barker and husband Charlie of Plymouth, NH, Heather Twombly and husband Kevin of South Riding, VA, and Tonya Guyette and husband Scott of Waterbury Center, VT; 10 grandchildren, Alex and Avery Whitcomb,  Ian, Ellie and Emily Barker,  Ethan, Parker and Nolan Twombly, and Connor and Liam Guyette; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Kamden; one son, Joseph Small of Nashua, NH; a brother, Gary; three sisters, Kathy, Gail and Carol; and a stepbrother, Chip. He was predeceased by his mother Esther Johnson Blanchard, father Lewis Johnson and brother David Johnson.

The family would like to thank Rowan Court for the care they provided to Wayne over the past three months. Also, many thanks to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice for their comforting care during his final days. Wayne has requested no services. A private committal will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the ALS Association Development Department, 27001 Agoura Road, Suite 250, Calabasas Hills, CA 91301.
