Floyd Swink, 93 years old, passed away on July 5, 2012, in his Warren home that he shared with his daughter and son-in-law Susan and Robert W. Russell. Born on October 21, 1918, in Avon, NY, Floyd enlisted in the U.S. Army when he was 21 years old. He served as a private in the 157th field artillery from October 1940 to 1941 and again as a Corporal Field lineman from October 1942 until November 1945. He was honored with a Purple Heart and several other awards for his distinguished service.
Floyd was a ham radio operator, a marksman and an avid fisherman. He loved to read and spent many hours at the library. He became adept at using a computer when he was 82 years old and transcribed his poetry into word processing software.
Floyd is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Robert Russell of Warren, VT, sister-in-law Elizabeth Palmer of Liverpool, NY, brother-in-law Dick Palmer of Baldwinsville, NY, and their children. He was predeceased by Katherine, his wife of 56 years.
