Julia Elizabeth Ludewig

Julia Elizabeth Ludewig, 82, of Fayston, passed away peacefully at the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday, April 10, 2012. Born in Plainfield, NJ, on July 5, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Polhemus) Mellick. On November 14, 1953, Julia married George E. Ludewig in Dunellen, NJ. Mr. Ludewig passed away on September 24, 1979.

Julia was a graduate of Dunellen (NJ) High School and then worked for a photography shop doing color enhancing. Following her marriage she was happy and busy as a homemaker and raising her daughter Laura.

After moving to the Mad River Valley in 1967, Julia went to work as a clerk at the Waitsfield Post Office for several years. Julia then worked with Jean Dean in a gift shop in Waitsfield. Upon Jean’s retirement she ventured out on her own to open T & J Office Supply from which she retired.

Julia was an active and devout member of the Waitsfield United Church of Christ where she served on various church committees and was a member of the church choir. Her family fondly remembers Julia for her creativity and artistic talents, creating custom made greeting cards for all occasions, her needlework, her love of music and animals and her strong faith.

Julia is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Richard Kingsbury of Waitsfield; her grandchildren, Travis Jon “TJ” Kingsbury and his wife Madaileine of Waterbury and Jamie Kingsbury and her fiance Josh Wylie of Stratton; and a great-grandson, Killian Kingsbury of Waterbury.

Funeral services were held at the Waitsfield United Church of Christ on Monday, April 16, 2012, at 11 a.m. with a reception following in the church dining room. Interment took place at the Bragg Hill Cemetery in Fayston. The family requests that flowers be omitted; rather memorial gifts would be appreciated to the Waitsfield United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 16, Waitsfield, VT 05673. To send online condolences please visit and Facebook. Assisting the family is the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury.
