Death investigation in Duxbury

On October 1, 2013, at approximately 11:27 a.m., Vermont State Police received a call regarding a reported suicide by hanging on the train trestle off of River Road in Duxbury, VT. Troopers from the Middlesex Barracks responded immediately; however, it was not possible to reach the 35-year-old male victim and he was pronounced deceased on scene. After significant efforts by Vermont State Police, Waterbury Fire Department and Stowe Rescue the decedent was able to be recovered and, subsequently, transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy.

Detectives with the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation were dispatched to the incident. The case is in the early stages of investigation; however, the death appears to be an isolated incident and there are no signs of foul play. The name of the decedent is being withheld pending notification of family members.

No other details are available at this time, as this is an active investigation pending the results of the complete autopsy report and case interviews. When more information becomes available, an updated press release will be issued.
