Surveying for Route 100 reconstruction is under way

Surveyors working for Kubricky Construction began surveying the rights of way on Route 100 from Waitsfield heading toward Warren last week. Their surveying continued this week with cold planing of the existing road surface slated to start on May 2.

Cold planing removes the existing surface of the road, leaving grooved and scarified pavement. On May 9, the contractor will begin the reclaiming process which is when the existing roadway will be ground up, leaving Route 100 a dirt road for most of the summer.

The first course of pavement is scheduled for July 11. The project will begin at Fiddler's Green in Waitsfield and proceed south.

Kubricky Construction will be staging materials and equipment on four acres of the Munn field across from Valley Animal Hospital per a lease agreement with the Waitsfield Select Board.

After several years of delays Route 100 between Waitsfield and Warren is being completely rebuilt and repaved with widened shoulders for cyclists and pedestrians created where possible. The existing road surface between the two towns is badly deteriorated, cracked, uneven and dangerous.

The work on Route 100 coincides with the work to complete sidewalks in Waitsfield and Irasville and drivers/pedestrians can expect delays and one-way traffic for the duration of both of those projects as well as the continued work to replace the Kingsbury iron bridge over the Mad River on Route 100 in Warren.
