MRVAS purchases new ambulance

{mosimage}

The Mad River Valley Ambulance Service is getting a new rig! As part of the volunteer ambulance service's commitment to improving equipment and quality emergency care, MRVAS is taking delivery of a new four-wheel-drive ambulance later this month, according to service spokesperson Erik Reisner.

With this addition, the MRVAS fleet will include two four-wheel-drive and one two-wheel-drive ambulances as well as a four-wheel-drive rescue truck. The ambulance that is being replaced is a 1997 Ford E-350 diesel two-wheel-drive with 121,000 miles.

The retired ambulance will be raffled off as a fundraiser. A maximum of 100 tickets will be sold. Full refunds will be given if less than 60 tickets are sold. The rig, it is suggested, might make a great vehicle for a general contractor, could be converted into a camper or may have many other potential uses such as a veterinarian's rig, transport for dogs in a doggy daycare or sled dogs, someone working in property management or even a sag or support wagon for bike or ski racing. The service last raffled off a used rig in 2006.

The vehicle comes with two complete sets of wheels/tires (winter and summer). All emergency equipment, lights, radios, siren and MRVAS logos will be removed from the vehicle. Tickets are available by calling 496-8888 or emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . The rig can be viewed at the ambulance station in Waitsfield Village.

The Mad River Valley Ambulance Service is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization that relies on a combination of grants and donations to continually improve equipment and training opportunities.
