Locals host law enforcement forum to discuss crime, options, plans

By Lisa Loomis

The Big Picture Theater, Waitsfield, will host a public forum on crime, law enforcement, local options and planning for the future.

The forum takes place on February 11, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the Big Picture. Organized by concerned business owners and others, the emphasis of the forum is to learn what options are available in The Valley, what is currently taking place and the depth of the problem with crime in The Valley at the moment.

Representatives from each town select board have been invited, along with Washington County Sheriff Sam Hill, state Representative Adam Greshin (I-Warren) and members of local Neighborhood Watch organizations. Additionally, representatives from the Stowe Police Force have been invited to discuss the creation of that small police department, how it works, how much it costs and its efficacy. Representatives of the Vermont State Police have been invited to discuss how the State Police can work with local towns on issues of property crimes, etc.

The forum will be open to the public for questions, suggestions and concerns. For more information, contact Jack Garvin at 496-7233 or moderator Lisa Loomis at 496-3607.
