After five years of creating and building the event, this may be the last year of the Mad Rally, at least as we know it. With sponsors cutting back, and some even eliminating funds, it is getting harder and harder to pull off the three-day event. Each year the event has grown in numbers, as well as overnight guests taking advantage of The Valley's beauty.
But unfortunately, as a whole, The Valley doesn't welcome the bikers. We are sorry to say that this may be another event that will be eliminated from The Valley (add it to the other numerous events that have been lost: horse show, snowmobile racing, March Madness, winter carnival, concerts on the mountain, etc.).
We feel that without more support from The Valley, the Mad Rally will be another one added to this list. In these economic times, it is hard to come up with large sponsorship dollars, but a little money from a lot of people makes up the same results.
While we tally up the weekend's numbers as well as getting our sanity back, we will take a look at the options for the next year. One possible answer would be to hold a one-day event, but our original vision was to get overnight guests, and we have succeeded in doing that. A one-day event would be more economical for us, but generating more "day-trippers" would not bring in lodging guests.
We would like to thank all our sponsors such as Griffin & Griffin Excavating, Ray's Autobody, Mad River Glen and Small Dog Electronics, whom have been there for all five years of the Rally, as well as Frank 107.1FM, The Chamber, Vermont Tent Company and Wilkin's Harley-Davidson.
And we cannot thank the dozens of volunteers that help to put his event on enough. And a huge thank you to the Kenyons for everything! Without the support of these people, this event would never have happened, nor grown to be what it is.
We wish to extend a huge thank you to all of our sponsors, supporters and our many, many volunteers, as well the businesses that gave gift certificates and silent auction prizes for the fifth annual Mad Rally. This year the sun came out, and we had a great event.
A special thank you to Kerry Hale Electric for updating the power supply on the field, which will not only help our event but the others using the field. Thanks to all that attended, as well as supported Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, and the Bone Marrow registry. Hopefully with more support, there will be a sixth year.
