‘Morally wrong’

To The Editor:

Tuesday night I went to the Warren Select Board meeting to address the replacement of the Plunkton Road bridge just north of my drive.

I was told by Barry Simpson that they were going to replace it. That bridge does not need to be replaced. After Irene, or should I say during Irene, the water washed out of the northeast footing and let the wall settle about a foot from the center to the east side. There was not proper riprap to keep the water away from the footings. The bridge was large enough to take all the water.

Because of the bridge on Route 100 south of Warren being washed out, all the traffic from Granville to Warren had to go over that bridge. I offered to make a wedge to support the floor but was turned down. Just before winter they hired a construction company to build a wedge to support the deck which still has no cracks in it. Now they want FEMA to build a new bridge which should not be torn out. It is morally wrong to ask for FEMA money to replace this bridge which has many more years of good, safe service when there are millions of places in this state and country that really need FEMA money. The town of Warren is not a pauper town and survived Irene very well.
