Wind: 9 mph
To the Editor:
This Tuesday, just two days after the hurricane with everyone helping the cleanup, I was surprised to come upon a sheriff's deputy on theÂ
East Warren Road with lights flashing.
I assumed he was marking a new road cave-in, so I stopped to see what the problem was. It turned outÂ
he had stopped a motorist for speeding on a midweek day with practically no traffic on that road while everyone else in theÂ
area was stretched trying to get back to normal.
If the sheriff's department can afford to send a patrolman out to hand out speeding tickets on a little used road, with all theÂ
emergency problems facing the state, the barracks concerned must be overstaffed. Perhaps the number of officers and the barracks’ budgetÂ
should be reduced.
