To The Editor:
It was a great parade in Warren this year and a beautiful day/weekend, which I am sure all residents and visitors in The Valley enjoyed.
As a fellow participant in this year's parade I found some of the comments of the parade announcer to be obnoxious and judgmental, and others listening throughout agreed. I think anyone listening to the parade announcer (or the radio if the words were broadcast live) could hear the judgments and "off the wall" comments made by the main announcer.
As a first-time visitor you might think that the people in the MRV are just "stoners" who support Industrial Hemp or that many of us must be wacko for expressing our independence and freedom of speech the way that we do. Okay, I can at least concede that I may be a bit wacko. I understand that the comments maybe were meant to be funny, but certainly did not come across that way.
The truth is that there are few places in the U.S. where you can freely express your views or simply drive a reconditioned classic car and wave to the crowd, like you can in Warren every year. We were all there to express ourselves and our independence.
It may be time for the Chamber and the Fourth of July committees to consider a new "voice" of the parade. A person open to all that is being expressed, not closed off and pre-judging people and their beliefs.
