To The Editor:
The recent news of the closing of the bridge in Middlesex is disturbing for a number of reasons; the rising cost of fuel is perhaps the most obvious. However, the other concern is the ability for the Vermont State Police, whose barracks are located just to the north of this bridge, to be able to respond to incidents in a timely manner.
The Middlesex State Police cover a large area including the Mad River Valley. Their response time is already challenged with distance and this will only make their response time even longer. It is my sincere wish that the VT Agency of Transportation recognize this and place this bridge on high priority and build a temporary bridge ASAP.
