StoryWalk vandalized!

To The Editor:

Monday afternoon, Ellen Drysdale and Emily Church installed Guyku, the first of three summer StoryWalks on the West Greenway. They placed 26 stakes in the ground along the path and attached the laminated pages of this delightful book with Velcro. Early that same evening, the StoryWalk was vandalized! Pages 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 are missing, removed from the stakes, nowhere to be found. The board of the Mad River Path Association is dismayed and disheartened. Emily and Ellen, library staff at Waitsfield Elementary School, volunteer to make this wonderful opportunity available to families and visitors. We thank them for their commitment to this special summer project. We hope to reinstall the missing pages ASAP (we have to pay to have a new version laminated, etc.) because we know several classes of children are planning to walk the path and enjoy the StoryWalk next week. Hopefully this act of vandalism will not happen again or the StoryWalk will have to be discontinued. So please take in the StoryWalk… keep your eyes open, your dogs on leash and be inspired by Guyku, A year of Haiku for Boys by Bob Raczka and Peter H. Reynolds. It is an enriching experience we hope will happen three times this summer and for years to come.

Laura Brines

President of the Mad River Path Association Board
