To The Editor:
Last Wednesday I got to see our local representative, Carol Hosford, in action at the State House during the debate and unanimous passage of a bill that will allow Vermont poultry farmers who sell less than 1,000 birds a year to sell directly to restaurants and at farmers' markets.
Carol has been involved with this legislation ever since last summer's Chicken Event. Carol spoke out against a proposed amendment that would have eliminated sales to restaurants from the bill. I was so impressed with Carol's knowledge of the current regulations in Vermont compared with those in other states. She gave a credible and compelling argument for changing the regulations as proposed by the Ag Committee without eliminating the language that allows sales to restaurants. It made me proud that Carol is our rep. Thank you Carol for supporting our local food system!
