To The Editor:
I am sending along a petition that is being electronically collected concerning the direction that the state is moving in the area of pre-K education. The questions remain, can we afford to send three- and four-year-olds to our elementary schools and is it going to eventually become a public funded form of day care? Presently we are expanding the cost of education at the rate of seven percent per year, which will double the cost again in six years.
There was a great amount of talk during the campaign about reducing the spending on education and changing the funding formula, with less dependence on the property tax. It is important to send a message to the legislature that we expect them to reduce spending and this in one way to do it, by not adding three- and four-year-olds to the spending.
