To The Editor:
I would like to tell you about our experience in traveling on Route 17 in the pass near Mad River Glen ski resort on Monday, December 26. We had just left Bristol and were going through the pass on Route 17 at about 7:30 p.m. when we skidded on the road and ended up in the ditch on the left side of the road. No one was hurt and the engine was running with the lights on. We were amazed at the many people who stopped by to help in a very short period of time.
The first man offered to ride up to the top of the pass and call the police and a tow truck on his cell phone. He did this and came back to tell us. He also offered to take us to our home in Fayston Farms if we wished.
The second car contained a woman with children, and she took me to a farmhouse nearby, and, while I made a few calls, she waited and then drove me back to the car. The owner of the house was very kind and helpful.
In short order, the police arrived, put out some flares, informed us that a tow truck was on its way and waited until the truck arrived.
The tow truck from Hap’s was there in about one-half hour, and he quickly pulled us out and we were home in about 20 minutes. All this took place in about one hour.
We wish to thank all the people who stopped by to help and Hap and the police for their quick response.
